Smith’s Food & Drug Stores pharmacies are making it easy and affordable for customers to stay healthy by getting seasonal flu immunizations.

Flu vaccines are currently being administered by Smith’s Certified Immunizing Pharmacists for $25 per vaccine in the 40 Smith’s stores throughout Nevada.

This year, The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends a flu shot for everyone over the age of six months.  The 2010-2011 vaccine offers protection against three strains of flu, including H1N1.  According to the CDC, a flu shot can reduce the chance of becoming infected by influenza by up to 70%. Smith’s Certified Immunizing Pharmacists can administer vaccines to children as young as six months of age depending upon the state regulations. Anyone interested in having their child immunized for flu should contact their local Smith’s pharmacy to inquire about details.

Sweet Peppers team returns to Mesquite to defend title in
Smokin’ in Mesquite BBQ Championship Labor Day Weekend

Jim Ballog and his Sweet Peppers BBQ team are headed for Mesquite on Labor Day Weekend to defend the team’s title in the Smokin’ in Mesquite BBQ competition at the CasaBlanca Resort.

The event marked yet another brilliant marketing effort on behalf of Mesquite Resort Association last year, and Ballog and teammate Adrian Sanderson are making the trek again this year chasing their share of a huge $40,000 purse.
“We’re two old guys traveling in a mini van,” laughed the 59 year-old Ballog while heading for another event in Dillon, Colo. earlier this month. “Our trip to Mesquite is an all-day trip. We try to plan it out where we get there to set up and cook before heading back Sunday morning.”

If ever there was an ideal set up for a major automobile manufacturer to sponsor a good-hearted and dedicated couple of travelers, it’s most definitely Ballog and Sanderson. The team had an overall 12th place finish in Colorado, and Ballog and Sanderson are hungry for a repeat win in Mesquite.

“We travel in an ’09 Van which already has 90,000 miles on it,” said Ballog while traveling through the mountains of Colorado. “We’re on our third set of tires. We were actually working with a Chevy-Chrysler dealership in Albuquerque for a possible sponsorship.”

Sanderson, a 65 year-old resident of Pueblo, Colo., works as a motorcycle helmet rep and also sells motorcycle apparel; while Ballog sells and services electric motors in Albuquerque. When you add in sauce specialist Ben Mosier from Nebraska, Sweet Peppers is comprised of a top-rated team as evidenced by its success last year at the Smokin’ in Mesquite BBQ championship.

While the victory was a big one, the experience was also memorable for more reasons than one. Now in their seventh year of BBQ competition, Mesquite offered its own set of challenges
.
“We weren’t used to the heat,” said Ballog. “Then, we had what appeared to be a tornado hit in the middle of the night, so we had our hands full. We even went out and bought a bunch of fans.

“There will be people from all over the world coming to Mesquite for this year’s event.”
No doubt. The Mesquite event sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Association instantly became the place-to-be after the 2009 tallies had been totaled and the fever grew even more when it was announced that a round-robin format would also tie the Mesquite event with the Memorial Day Best Dam Barbeque held in Boulder City.

Sweet Peppers also competed in the Best Dam BBQ event and is now vying for the overall championship purse of $3,000.
Key to any BBQ competition is the science that goes into the planning. There are logistical challenges not to mention making sure vehicles are ready. Throw in the elements needed for the BBQ competition, and it is evident the path to Mesquite actually leads to Lynchburg, Tenn., the home of the Jack Daniels invitational championship contest Oct. 22-23.

“This is a hobby now, but there is no question that a lot of work goes into something like this,” said Ballog, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. “If you travel like we do, you’re on the road every weekend usually traveling 900-1,000 miles.
“It’s a fun deal. I cook a lot and really enjoy it. This sort of thing gives a guy a chance to do something without having to buy a $25,000 boat. He can spend that much money on a smoker, but he doesn’t have to. And besides, he can have an even better time when he includes his family in the competition.”

Of course, the key is making sure the team is properly equipped for the trip to Mesquite.
“I think we spend about $120 for the meat for each contest,” Ballog said. “Then, you have to make sure you have the Cheetos, bags of cookies, the iced tea and the Jack Daniels.“We try to buy our pork butts and briskets at Sam’s Club and our pork ribs at Costco. Low quality meat is not something you want to have when you’re more than 500 miles from home.”

With the inaugural event under its belt, Sweet Peppers is heading for Mesquite convinced the team will win again.
“I believe we’re going to come into Mesquite ready for anyone,” Ballog predicted. “We’re not cocky. We’re just a very consistent team that comes in and cooks hard. I think we’re ready for anybody this year.”

Consistency is certainly important in the BBQ competition and Sweet Peppers has been a grand champion four times while also collecting numerous second (known as the Reserve) and third place finishes. In addition, the team has captured the Arizona Team of the Year honors as named by AZ BBQ of Phoenix.
Ballog never stops trying to improve his BBQ skills.

“My poor family eats chicken every weekend,” he says, “and the family is good at telling me if something is any good. You have to be objective and appreciate what people tell you.”

Yet another key is making sure the team doesn’t panic when a challenge is presented.
“We handle everything very well,” said Ballog. “We’re getting older, so we don’t get excited. If we’re having a problem with the fire or the meat, we make a quick decision and stick with it.”

The Smokin’ in Mesquite event will kick off Thursday, Sept. 2 with an eight-hour cooking class taught by noted meat expert Dave Bouska, a native Oklahoman who was ranked among the top competitors in Kansas City Barbeque Society KCBS) BBQ events last year. Bouska will share his expertise with all ages beginning at 8 a.m. in a seminar-like event that is expected to last until about 4 p.m.  A $150 fee will be charged to those participating in the unique class.
Further information regarding this year’s event can be found by visiting www.mesquitebbqchampionship.com

NEVADA CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES
5th ANNUAL BONE MARROW DRIVE

A Marrow or Blood Cell Transplant is a Potentially Life Saving Treatment for Children with Leukemia, Lymphoma and Other Blood Diseases

After being diagnosed with Fanconi and Aplastic Anemia and waiting four years to find a Bone Marrow donor, 8-year-old Angel will finally undergo a life-saving transplant this October due in part to a Bone Marrow Drive hosted by the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation (NCCF) last year.  Now, David, an 18-year-old Southern Nevada teen diagnosed with Leukemia, has been in the hospital for weeks and desperately needs a transplant to save his life.  NCCF seeks the community’s help to find Bone Marrow matches for David and many other children in Southern Nevada whose life threatening illnesses can only be cured through a Bone Marrow transplant.  The adult community is invited to potentially save the life of a child by joining the National Bone Marrow Registry at the 5th Annual Bone Marrow Drive on September 10th and 11th at the Galleria Mall at Sunset.

“We are deeply grateful to the people in Southern Nevada that have joined the registry to support the children of NCCF,” said Jeff Gordon, President/CEO of NCCF.  “We are thrilled to see Angel finally receive his life-saving treatment and hope to find matches for many other children needing a transplant.  We can’t do so without the help of the community and the more people attend, the better our chances. This year, as in years past, we are in need of Hispanic, African American, Asian and Pacific Islanders as 70 percent of the multi-race community can’t find a match because very few are in the national registry.”

Bone Marrow Drive dates and location below:

Friday, September 10, 2010 & Saturday, September 11, 2010
11 am to 6 pm

Galleria at Sunset (Lower Level – Inside Mall in front of Kohl’s and also in front of Gap)
1300 West Sunset Rd
Henderson, NV 89014

A marrow or blood cell transplant is a potentially life-saving treatment for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood diseases. A transplant replaces a person’s unhealthy blood cells with healthy blood-forming cells from a volunteer donor.  This year, as in past years, NCCF will cover the cost for those who join the registry.  Doing so is as simple as having a swab of cheek cells which is taken and tested to determine the donor’s tissue type. Potential donors, between the ages of 18 and 60 years old who meet the health guidelines, will complete a brief health questionnaire and sign a consent form to be listed on the registry.

If you cannot join the donor registry, NCCF will also be accepting monetary donations to cover the cost of the transplants which can be a huge burden on a family in need.

For more information on the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation and details regarding bone marrow donations, please call 702.735.8434 or visit www.nvccf.org and www.marrow.org.

Powerhouse Social Media Keynote Panel To Rock PubCon Las Vegas 2010

PubCon, the premier search and social media conference and expo, has announced that its PubCon Las Vegas (http://www.pubcon.com)2010 event to be held on November 8 - 11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center will feature a powerhouse keynote panel consisting of Copyblogger founder Brian Clark, FutureWorks principal Brian Solis, New Marketing Labs president Chris Brogan, UnMarketing president Scott Stratten, and Sevans Strategy founder Sarah Evans.

PubCon's powerhouse keynote panel will augment a strong lineup of individual keynote speakers to be announced during the coming months, and will make PubCon Las Vegas 2010 the center of the search and social media universe, as Clark, Solis, Brogan, Stratten and Evans push the boundaries of social media success.

This all-star keynote panel, moderated by Digitas senior vice president of search strategy Melanie Mitchell, features five world-renowned search and social media innovators, each a heavy-hitter in the new media and marketing world, and all highly sought keynote speakers.

In 2006 Clark launched Copyblogger, a popular website focusing on writing for social media that boasts more than 100,000 subscribers and which has been heralded as a top industry blog by Technorati, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, U.K.'s Guardian newspaper, and others.

With more than 55,000 Twitter followers, Clark, a popular speaker at previous PubCon events, will offer his latest resources for achieving social media success.

Solis' vision helped lay the foundation on which today's social media has been built, and is the author of numerous popular books including his 2010 Wiley effort, "Engage: The Complete Guide for Brands and Businesses to Build, Cultivate, and Measure Success in the New Web."

Solis' Engage has received widespread praise from industry leaders, including Zappos chief executive Tony Hsieh, new media expert Guy Kawasaki, and Craigslist founder Craig Newmark, three former PubCon keynote speakers who have become fans of Solis, whose Twitter feed is followed by more than 59,000 people.

The keynote panel will also feature noted social media veteran Brogan, a New York Times and Wall Street Journal best-selling author whose recent books include "Trust Agents: Using the Web to Build Influence, Improve Reputation, and Earn Trust" and "Social Media 101."

Brogan, who has more than 130,000 Twitter followers and who presented a fireside chat keynote with Kawasaki at PubCon South at Austin in 2009, will share his latest social media insights based on more than 11 years of success in the industry.

Stratten, who presented an insightful keynote during PubCon South at Dallas earlier this year, is an internationally-respected marketing expert who has successfully combined viral and social media with what he calls authentic marketing to form his unique UnMarketing strategy, which he will share during the PubCon keynote panel.

Featured in publications including The Wall Street Journal and USA Today, Stratten is one of the top influencers on Twitter with more than 60,000 followers, and his clients' viral marketing videos have been seen more than 60 million times, including one the National Football League's Chicago Bears cited as the team's biggest motivator as it made a bid for the Super Bowl.

Evans, a self-described "social media freak," has parlayed her social media success into numerous awards and accolades including Forbes' "14 Power Women to Follow on Twitter" and Vanity Fair's "America's Tweethearts."

Evans, who has been a guest writer for technology blog Mashable and who has more than 46,000 Twitter followers, will share her proven marketing ideas and strategies at PubCon.

"What's next in social media for PR? It's not the next big tool or application, it is developing industry best practices, standards and ways to deliver real results for clients," said Evans.

Join Clark, Solis, Brogan, Stratten and Evans on November 8 - 11, 2010 at the Las Vegas Convention Center for PubCon Las Vegas 2010.

"Xtreme Couture vs. Team Quest" Clash Heads
Tuff-N-Uff's Live Internet stream on August 6"

Mixed martial arts icons Randy Couture and Dan Henderson have thus far avoided an in-cage confrontation during their legendary careers, but in August, the pair will be represented in an epic clash.

Tuff-N-Uff returns to the Orleans Hotel & Casino's Mardi Gras Ballroom in Las Vegas on Friday, August 6, and Las Vegas' premier amateur fight promotion is proud to host a special event, "Xtreme Couture vs. Team Quest."

What was originally announced as a five-on-five competition has now grown to a massive eight-bout contest. Eight fighters from Couture's Las Vegas-based Xtreme Couture camp will clash with eight combatants representing Henderson's California-based Team Quest academy in a showdown for the ages, and in addition to respect and bragging rights, Tuff-N-Uff's featherweight title also hangs in the balance.

Tickets for Tuff-N-Uff's Aug. 6 event, which start at just $25, are available at the Orleans Hotel & Casino's box office or online at OrleansCasino.com and TuffNUff.net. Fans from around the globe can watch the fights live at GoFightLive.com or TuffNUff.net.

Add in four female tournament contests and a main event title contest between top amateur prospects Chris Holdsworth (5-0), the Tuff-N-Uff 135-pound champion that has won every contest within the first round, and Anthony Gutierrez (15-1), and the Aug. 6 event is clearly positioned as one of the best in Tuff-N-Uff's illustrious history.

In the night's co-main event, Tuff-N-Uff 145-pound champion Jimmy Jones (6-3) represents Xtreme Couture against Team Quest challenger Jon Gorton (4-2).

An eight-time Tuff-N-Uff veteran, Jones opened his career in 2008 with three-straight decision losses. Since then, Jones has gone on a tear with six-straight wins - including four via stoppage - en route to claiming Tuff-N-Uff's 145-pound title.

Meanwhile, Gorton, who earned a submission win under the Tuff-N-Uff banner in August 2009, has put together a 4-2 record and looks to halt Jones' impressive run.

Whether or not Jones and Gorton's result will also decide the evening's team challenge winner will be determined by a field of 14 additional talented participants sporting an impressive combined record of 30-11.

Xtreme Couture featherweight Eric Center (0-3) meets Team Quest's Craig Cook (2-0), Xtreme Couture's undefeated Gil Guardado (5-0) faces Team Quest's Brandon Morris (4-2) in a 160-pound affair, Xtreme Couture lightweight Jake Swinney (3-0) squares off with Team Quest's Marco Davila (0-0), Xtreme Couture lightweight John Hahn (2-0) clashes with debuting Team Quest fighter Ozzy Abarca (0-0), Xtreme Couture middleweight Zach Conley (3-0) tangles with Team Quest rookie Chris Herrerra (0-0), Xtreme Couture veteran welterweight Justin Jaynes (7-6) squares off with Team Quest's Brock Pagen (2-0), and Xtreme Couture's Jesse Romero (2-0) faces Team Quest's Carlos Garcia (0-0).

In addition to the exciting team challenge, Tuff-N-Uff's Aug. 6 event also sees the semifinals of the promotion's ambitious 125- and 135-pound female tournaments, which will ultimately crown the organization's first-ever champions in the divisions in September.

In the semifinals of the talent-rich 125-pound tourney Lindsay Jones (1-0) fights Jen Yumm (5-0), and Stephanie Eggink (1-0) faces Katie Klimansky (0-0).

Jones advanced to the semifinals with a unanimous-decision win over Trish Clarke. The Jackson's MMA product fought valiantly in an action-packed affair, and though Clarke offered an ample test, Jones was able to pick up her first career win with a combination of effective striking and active grappling.

Yumm entered the tournament as the early favorite, and while first-round opponent Nicole Hess pushed her to the limit, little has changed. Yumm survived a scare after being caught in an armbar in the second round of her quarterfinal bout, but with five-straight wins to open her career, she remains the woman to beat.

Eggink qualified for the semifinals with an impressive win over Jillian Lybarger. The West Coast Fight Club product threatened with a triangle choke in the opening round before finally securing the hold in the third. A spinning backfist also hit its mark before the final tap.

Meanwhile, Klimansky enters the bout as the freshest fighter in the bracket as her first-round opponent, Kim Novak, withdrew from their quarterfinal matchup. Klimansky seeks her first amateur win after receiving a fortunate bye into the semifinals.

In a re-shuffled 135-pound bracket, Tsui-Jen Cunanan (3-1) faces Emily Peters-Kagen (2-1) while Jillian Lybarger (2-2) meets Ashley Weakley (3-0).

Cunanan impressed in a July quarterfinal bout by swarming a favored Mollie Estes from the opening bell. The Phoenix Combat Academy product rocked her opponent early in the opening round before locking in a fight-ending guillotine choke.

Meanwhile, Peters-Kagen first burst on the Tuff-N-Uff scene with a stunning 23-second TKO stoppage of Autumn Richardson in May. Peters-Kagen dropped a hard-fought decision to Weakley in the opening round of the tourney, but with Michelle Velebit unable to continue, the Greg Jackson's MMA product earns a reprieve.

Lybarger steps in for twin sister Jocelyn, who was also unable to continue in the tournament. Jillian was defeated in the opening round of the 125-pound tournament, but she now moves up a weight class to fill in for her sister, who advanced to the semifinals with a July win over Amanda Lauland.

Lybarger faces Weakley, who earned a unanimous-decision win against a tough Peters-Kagan in the opening round. The undefeated Team Leo Dalla fighter showed a powerful Thai clinch as she battered her opponent with brutal knees throughout.

The winners of the semifinal contests in both tournaments will return for the final round on Sept. 24, when two valiant combatants will join 115-pound belt-holder Ashley Cummins as Tuff-N-Uff female champions.

And as if all that weren't enough, Holdsworth defends his title for what is likely the final time against the experienced Gutierrez. A pro contract is likely in the near future for both fighters, and Cobra Kai Jiu-Jitsu product Holdsworth is anxious to finish undefeated.

A Marc Laimon black belt, Holdsworth has ended all five of his career contests via submission or TKO. But Gutierrez, who has fought 15 times in a 14-month span, will undoubtedly prove Holdsworth's toughest test. The Missouri native and Team Grindhouse fighter rattled off 14-straight wins to open his career, and nine of his victories have come via stoppage.

In addition to the evening's featured matchups, a full lineup of aspiring amateur fighters from some of the world's top academies, including TapouT Las Vegas and Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet, will compete at Tuff-N-Uff's Aug. 6 event.

The full fight card is available for viewing at TuffNUff.net, and the entire event will stream live on GoFightLive.tv.

Come see the future stars of mixed martial arts!

The Dance World Comes To Las Vegas For
The Dance Teacher Web Conference & Expo

The Dance Teacher Web Conference & Expo (http://www.danceteacherexpo.com) is returning to Las Vegas for its 2nd year and, because of its increasing size and demand for a conference space that is intimate yet large enough to accommodate participants and exhibitors in close proximity, the event will be taking up residence at the fabulous Red Rock Resort & Spa. Dance teachers from around the world attend competitions in Vegas all year long with their students, but this is the one occasion when they can focus on themselves, immerse themselves in learning and enjoy everything that Las Vegas has to offer.

The Dance Teacher Web Conference & Expo, launched from their internet base of operations, the member-only Dance Teacher Web (http://www.danceteacherweb.com), presents a comprehensive four day curriculum with over 70 movement and business seminars, from technique classes in hip hop, afro jazz, ballet, tap and partnering to sessions dedicated to helping small businesses run more smoothly and profitably. Some of the business seminars include “How to improve your customer service,” “Marketing trends for 2011” and “21 ways to increase profits”—all essentials for the often teacher-run operations that most business marketers ignore. " If you are a dance teacher or have a desire to be one, than this event is for you" says conference co-producer Julie Davis.

This year’s event will again feature an all-star cast of master teachers and business leaders, both wildly popular speakers from the Dance Teacher Web Conference & Expo’s inaugural year and new ones. Wayne Sleep, British star of ballet and musical theater, Tapper Ryan Kasprzak from “So You Think You Can Dance”, top business and life coach Mikki Williams and dance innovators Steve Sirico and Angela D’Valda Sirico will headline the conference presenters. Performers will include stars of the Melbourne and Boston Ballet to the Hip Hoppers The Striker All-Stars from "America's Best Dance Crew" adding to the international flavor of the event. "We have such a diverse group of teachers, choreographers and business consultants that this is truly the only international dance teacher event" notes Angela D'Valda Sirico

For those in the Las Vegas area during the event you can attend the Expo free of charge. The top vendors of everything dance—from costumes to flooring to backdrops—will be exhibiting and offering special discounts and incentives.

The Dance Teacher Web Conference & Expo takes place August 8 through 11, 2010 at the Red Rock Resort & Spa. To register, visit Dance Teacher Expo (http://www.danceteacherconferenceexpo.com/coverpage.html) or call 203-545-7167.

"Wide Awake"on Saturday, July 17th at Diablo's Cantina.

Miggs isn't the new kid on the block. They've been "one of the best bands you've never heard of" (music-reviewer.com) for a while now, with more almost-famous stories than thought possible and they're not showing any signs of letting go or letting up in 2010.

For Don Miggs, after four albums and a revolving door for musicians, it was time to take stock; "We released 'Unraveled' (2008, Rock Ridge Music), the drummer left, and Michael (Lombardo, bass guitar) and I went on the road trying to find our identity. It got tiring constantly introducing new members to each other and I'm sure our fans started to lose interest in a group that wasn't even able to stay a group." Calling on Kyle Cook (Matchbox Twenty) to play matchmaker, the guys were introduced to drumming sensation Ryan Scarbrough. Fed up with the Nashville "gun for hire" scene and wanting to be part of something more permanent, Ryan jumped right in. Musically aligned, the band toured relentlessly through 2008-2009, finding an undeniable groove with each other and the new material. Audiences and critics agreed. They couldn't wait to see how this group would sound in the studio.

In December 2009, they found out when multi-platinum producer/engineer Ken Lewis (Fall Out Boy, Kanye West) signed on to translate this on-stage chemistry into a gripping studio album. The result is the newly-released "Wide Awake" (Rock Ridge, Spring 2010), easily Miggs' most accomplished, fresh-sounding and accessible collection of songs to date. "I wanted to make an album that felt both immediate and nostalgic. Worn in and new at the same time." Continuing, "This is the first time I ever recorded an album with same guys I'd been playing with for the last two years and it shows. We didn't have to try to make it all fit. It just did."

Miggs saw its fair share of the spotlight over the course of the years with the singles "Perfect" and "I Believe" reaching No. 66 and No. 82, respectively, on Billboard's Hot AC chart and "I Believe" even pushing No. 7 on the Hot AC Media Base chart. In 2009, the band landed a performance on "Good Morning America," media accolades came their way and opening slots for everyone, including Duran Duran to Maroon 5, Train, Matt Nathanson, and Sister Hazel seasoned their stage show. Music supervisors have included Miggs' unique brand of pop-rock in television, games and movies like Fox's "The O.C.," Buena Vista video game "Spectrobes," MTV's "Bromance with Brody Jenner," A&E's "Gene Simmons Family Jewels," Disney's "Fallen," and Don even wrote the song for the Florida tourism campaign, "Share A Little Sunshine." "Growing our audience organically has always been the goal," says Don. "If too many people jump on at once, the boat will sink. Remaining afloat was always key." "Wide Awake" shows not only how far they've come, but also promises to keep the band sailing smoothly into the future.

Later this summer, MIGGS will be playing with Maroon 5 and American Idol Winner Kris Allen on a nationwide tour. Don Miggs, Michael Lombaro, and Ryan Scarbrough are ready to hit the road with this tour with Maroon 5 that will take them to over 30 cities.

Infectious hooks, powerful lyrics, and straight-up, in-your-face rock.

We all know what wooden window shutters cost, more or less, however some people at The Shutter Store think their summer shutters SALE isn’t supposed to conform to that convention. Is it time for a new way in window coverings?

Plantation shutters have long been popular with us everyday USA folks as a great choice for durable hard wearing and can we say mighty fine looking window coverings. Measuring up beforehand is the most important thing when you’re installing shutters, and The Shutter Store provide you with free easy to follow measuring guides  as well as install guide videos on their website. DIY shutters are pretty darn simple to install and there’s a bunch of their customer projects online for you to see just how they got it all done so simply.

SHUMENOV FACES UNDEFEATED UZELKOV IN FIRST TITLE DEFENSE
HISTORY MAKING WBA LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION MAKES ESPN2 DEBUT ON JULY 23RD AT TACHI PALACE HOTEL  & CASINO

When capturing the WBA Light Heavyweight Championship in just his 10th professional bout back in January, Beibut Shumenov (9-1, 6 KOs) entered the boxing record books for winning a major world title in the light heavyweight division with the fewest number of fights in his professional career, beating Jeff Harding’s record established in 1988 after winning the championship in his 15th professional bout.

On July 23rd, the Chimkent, Kazakhstan-born, Las Vegas, NV-based warrior, who recently signed with Goossen Tutor Promotions, will get his next chance at making history when he defends his WBA and IBA titles in only his 11th professional bout against mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Uzelkov (22-0, 14 KOs) of Vinitza, Ukraine, in the scheduled 12-round main event of the ESPN2 “Friday Night Fights” (10pm ET/7pm PT).

Presented by Goossen Tutor in association with KZ Event Productions, the Shumenov-Uzelkov headlined boxing card will emanate from a specially constructed outdoor arena at the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, CA.

The Kevin Barry-trained, self- managed Shumenov, 26, avenged his only loss as a pro – by majority decision -- in winning the WBA Light Heavyweight Championship from Gabriel Campillo in another 12-round hotly-contested bout -- in just his 10th fight.

On May 8th in Carson, CA, Shumenov was introduced at a press conference announcing the signing with Goossen Tutor, which will allow him to be more focused for his own boxing career, starting with the defense against Uzelkov.  As co-owner -- with brother Chingis -- of KZ Event Productions, Beibut Shumenov will continue to be heavily involved in signing and guiding the careers of boxers under the KZ umbrella.

The mental toll on a fighter who is actually fighting and promoting simultaneously can be, and usually is, horrific.  Now with the burden of the day-in, day-out promotional responsibilities now resting on Goossen Tutor’s shoulders, Shumenov, for the first time in his career will truly be able to concentrate on the formable task immediately in front of him; WBA mandatory challenger Uzelkov.

“I’ve been able to concentrate 100-percent on training for the first time in my career with the alignment with Goossen Tutor,” Shumenov said.  “I’ve been training hard with Kevin just focusing on improving all aspects of my arsenal, and everyone will see that against Uzelkov.  He is a good fighter who deserves his championship opportunity and I know it’s going to be a great fight.  I can’t wait for July 23rd.  It’s going to be a night of firsts for me – first WBA title defense; first time fighting on ESPN; and first fight without having to worry about promoting.”

The undefeated, heavy-handed Uzelkov, 31, has been taken the distance just once in his last 10 bouts. In his most recent outing back in October, he stopped the Czech Republic’s Tomas Adamek in the fifth round to win the WBA Inter-Continental Championship in Kiev, Ukraine.  Uzelkov owns a knockout win over Gabriel Campillo – the only common opponent he has with Shumenov.  Uzelkov is promoted by brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, who head up K2 Promotions Ukraine.

“It is necessary to knock him (Shumenov) out so there are no questions, and as a matter of fact, that is exactly what I plan to do,” Uzelkov said.  Shumenov had the title for a little while and now it will transfer over to me.”

Promoter Dan Goossen said he couldn’t have picked a tougher fight for his new champion then Uzelkov.  “These are the type of challenges that definitely take you to the next level with a victory.  It won’t be easy on July 23, but we believe Beibut is destined to do special things in boxing.”

A victory for Shumenov puts him into position to unify the light heavyweight belts against the other champions:  Tavoris Cloud (IBF), Jean Pascal (WBC) and Juergen Braehmer (WBO).  But the one real challenge Shumenov would like is against undefeated Chad Dawson.

First things first though as Shumenov can only think about taking care of the very dangerous and hungry challenger on July 23.

In addition to the main event bout, Rico Ramos (16-0, 9 KOs), the #3 WBO world rated Super Bantamweight will defend his WBO/NABO championship against Mexico’s hard-punching Cuauhtemoc Vargas (15-3-1, 10 KOs) in an eight-round fight.  With a win, Ramos will be one step closer to his goal of fighting for the world championship.

Tickets for this exciting event are priced at:  $20, $50, $60 and $250 and can be purchased by calling the Tachi Palace box office at:  559-924-7751 or by visiting www.tickets.com.

KZ Event’s unbeaten welterweight Ravshan Hudaynazarov
in action Friday night in Primm, Nevada

Hot Uzbekistan welterweight prospect Ravshan Hudaynazarov, now fighting out of Las Vegas, puts his undefeated record on the line Friday night (May 14) against veteran Gerardo Cesar Prieto in a 6-round, off-television bout on the ESPN Friday Night Fights show, presented by Guilty Boxing and Vega Boxing Promotions, at Buffalo Bill’s Star Arena in Primm, Nevada. Hudaynazarov-Prieto is on the undercard of the Julio Diaz-Herman Ngoudjo card.

Hudaynazarov (12-0, 10 KOs), a 2007 World Military Games Gold Medalist, dropped down from junior middleweight to the more high-profile welterweight division for the first in his last fight (March 27), when his lethal body attack stopped Anthony “The Matrix” Mora (15-6, 10 KOs) in the opening round

Hudaynazarov is promoted by Las Vegas-based KZ Event Productions, the Las Vegas-based company owned and operated by the Shumenov brothers, World Boxing Association light heavyweight champion, Beibut, and Chingis, who will both be in attendance at the Primm show.

“Ravshan is a top prospect and he’s much stronger at welterweight,” new WBA World Champion Beibut Shumenov said. “His vicious body shots breakdown opponents and that exciting style has become his trademark. Ravshan works hard. He has improved each fight and we’re going to keep him busy. Prieto has been in against world champion Andre Berto and took U.S. Olympian Vanes Martirosyan the distance, so this figures to be the stiffest test of Ravshan’s young pro career. We’d like to thank the promoters, Guilty Boxing’s Jeff Grmoja and Vega Boxing’s Ron Sanderson, for putting Ravshan on this card.”

Shumenov (9-1, 6 KOs), who recently signed a promotional contract with Goossen-Tutor, will defend his title in June or July against WBA mandatory challenger Vyacheslav Uzelkov (22-0, 14 KOs) at a site to be determined. Hudaynazarov is tentatively slated to fight on the undercard.
